care of in the long run. We received the late phone calls that we were aware would come, but once they received the letters, the calls stopped. With caller ID I

In October I took a trip up north for my sister’s wedding. My kids weren’t used to the cold, and both of my kids ended up sick. My one year old daughter’s cold was
so severe... It had come to this: I was making decisions about my child’s health based on money....at that point I knew I was in trouble......My husband and I aren’t
flashy people by any stretch of the imagination. We drive older used cars, but keep no auto loans. We own a moderate house in a decent neighborhood. We’re
both hard working individuals – he works full time, and I work 2 part time jobs so that one of us is always home with our children. We’re both college graduates from
a private institution, so between the two of us, we’re close to $100,000 in student loan debt. And even though we live a moderate lifestyle, we’d managed to build
up around $20,000 in credit card debt. It was just life getting in the way – I’d lost my job at the end of each of my pregnancies, so credit cards became our means
for groceries while unemployment and the job searches played out. Daycare expenses were charged while I transitioned back to work for a second time. Travel
expenses for funerals, holidays and weddings for family up north were charged to the credit card. Business expenses as I worked to get set up from working from
home were charged. Home repairs – a broken washer, refrigerator and roof all in the same week – all went on the credit cards. There were, of course, the luxuries
of eating out, buying clothes and shoes, but generally speaking our credit cards had been our lifeline. We became dependant on them, without realizing what we
were doing...We’re at the beginning of a long road, but finally it’s a road that’s going somewhere. We’re just over four years away from being credit card free, and I

budget. The time frame could not be more perfect - we had discussed revisiting the idea of moving back north, my going to seminary, going on missions trips and
